Terms of Use

1. Scope

These terms apply to your use of gopheria.com (the “site”). By reading the site you accept them. If you do not, the remedy is simple and costs nothing: stop reading.

The site is operated by the publisher of Gopheria, reachable at contact@gopheria.com. Nothing is sold here, no account can be created, and no contract for goods or services is formed by visiting.

2. What the site is

Gopheria publishes technical articles about the Go programming language, its runtime and its ecosystem. It is a publication, not a consultancy.

Articles describe experiments run on specific hardware, with specific versions of Go, under conditions the article states. They are offered as information, not as professional advice. Your system is not the system the measurement was taken on, and a benchmark result is a description of one machine’s behaviour on one day, not a guarantee about yours.

Decisions about production systems remain yours. Measure on your own hardware before acting on anything read here.

3. Content licence

Two different rules apply to two different things on the same page.

3.1 Article prose — all rights reserved

The written text, headings, structure, diagrams, images and the site’s design are © Gopheria and its author. All rights reserved.

You may not republish an article, in whole or in substantial part, on another site, in a newsletter, in a training corpus sold as a product, or in print, without written permission.

3.2 Code samples — MIT

Every code sample published on this site is released under the MIT licence. You may use, copy, modify, merge, publish, distribute, sublicense and sell it, in personal or commercial work, with no attribution and no notice.

Permission is hereby granted, free of charge, to any person obtaining a copy of the code samples published on gopheria.com, to deal in them without restriction, including without limitation the rights to use, copy, modify, merge, publish, distribute, sublicense, and/or sell copies, subject to the following: the code samples are provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to the warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.

This split is deliberate. A code sample you cannot legally paste into your repository is worthless, and asking permission to use a twelve-line benchmark harness wastes everyone’s time.

3.3 Quoting and linking

You may always:

• link to any page here, including deep links, without asking;
• quote a reasonable extract for review, criticism, commentary, teaching or news reporting, with attribution to Gopheria and a link to the original;
• reproduce a headline and a sentence or two as a citation.

These are ordinary exceptions under copyright law, and this clause states them so nobody has to guess where the line sits.

3.4 Automated access

Crawling is welcome — the site publishes a plain-Markdown twin of every article and an /llms-full.txt precisely so that machines can read it cleanly. robots.txt names the crawlers that are welcome and the paths that are not.

What is not permitted is wholesale republication of the prose, whether by a person or by a program. Reading, indexing, quoting and citing are fine. Mirroring is not.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• attempt to gain unauthorised access to the site, its hosting infrastructure or any connected system;
• probe, scan or test the security of the site without prior written permission;
• interfere with its availability, including by generating request volumes that degrade service for others;
• misrepresent the site’s content, or present modified content as if it were published here;
• use the site for anything unlawful.

Nothing in this clause is intended to discourage responsible disclosure. If you find a security problem, contact@gopheria.com is the right address, and a report made in good faith will be treated as such.

5. Accuracy

Articles are written carefully and checked before publication. They are still wrong sometimes.

Runtime behaviour changes between Go releases, benchmarks are sensitive to conditions their author did not think to record, and a conclusion can be sound about the measurement and wrong about the world. Where an article is corrected, the correction is made in the article and its updatedDate changes.

Corrections are genuinely welcome. If something here does not reproduce for you, that is worth an email — it usually means the article failed to state a condition it depended on.

No commitment is made that the site will be available uninterrupted, that content is current, or that any specific article will remain published.

6. Liability

The site is provided free of charge, “as is”, and without warranties of any kind beyond those that cannot lawfully be excluded.

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the operator is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, loss of data, or damage arising from decisions taken in reliance on content published here.

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability for:

• death or personal injury caused by negligence;
• fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation;
• intent or gross negligence;
• any other liability that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded.

If you are a consumer resident in the European Union or the European Economic Area, you keep every mandatory protection your national law gives you. Nothing in these terms reduces those rights, and where a clause here conflicts with them, your national law wins.

7. Links to other sites

Articles link to documentation, source repositories, issue trackers, papers and other people’s writing. Those destinations are not under this site’s control. A link is a citation, not an endorsement, and once you follow one these terms and the Privacy Policy stop applying.

8. Privacy and cookies

What is processed when you visit is set out in the Privacy Policy. What is stored on your device — one localStorage entry holding your theme choice, and no cookies — is set out in the Cookie Policy.

9. Changes

These terms may be updated. The version in force is the one published here, and the Last updated date above marks the last revision. Continuing to read the site after a change means the revised terms apply to that use.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of the operator’s place of establishment, without prejudice to clause 6: if you are a consumer in the EU or EEA, the mandatory consumer-protection rules of your country of residence continue to apply to you, and you may bring proceedings in the courts of that country.

11. Severability

If a provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force and the unenforceable provision is read down to the extent needed to make it lawful.
